What is the cause of our on field problems? Players or coaching?
|
Is it that the players simply aren't good enough, (barring one or two) or is it that they are not organised, coached and prepared well enough?
What's the consensus?

Huge failures by our midfield to press, and then to simply watch and shadow the opposition, leaves our defence impossibly exposed.

Alleged comment from Bilic that we have tried everything and can't do anything differently (telegraph I think).
Crap, you can put Adrian in goal and attack from the very beginning rather than play patsy with the ball. Swansea will still be reeling from the 3 goals in 6 minutes on Wednesday, go for it! Would love to see the likes of Antonio and especially Lanzini run with the ball into the area, every chance of panic and a penalty. We must be up for this and not bemoan the last five results.

The main difference between this season and last is the performance and subsequent points against the top clubs. My memory may be a little hazy, but in our (league) games against Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham last season we only lost once, drew four (of which we were unlucky not to win most them all) and won the rest. This season I think we've so far got one point from these games. I suspect our results against the points we've claimed against the other teams in the league isn't that much different this season.
The core of the team hasn't charged hugely (Payet since January being the exception) so why the change. Self belief? Team spirit? Over confidence and a resulting lack of effort? Should a professional footballer earning tens of thousand a week need to be told that he has nothing to fear as long as he gets his head down and work hard?

All bar Lanzini, & Antonio, Pedro and Fernandez not good enough, with a lot of work Cresswell, Masuaku, Winston, & Kouyate, could save their careers. From the shit left, too slow, mentally weak, unfit, just not able too compete effectively in this league.

think you've answered your own question right there and quite well.

also very good points.
As is clear, I'm firmly in the "it's the coach" camp. All clubs have down years, look at Chelsea last year. What fucks me off the most, is our failure to get any better over the course of the year. We might be worse now than when we started (and we were fucking awful then). The failure to address RB and striker in the transfer window is criminal, and whether it was the board dithering or Bilic not realising the need, it makes little difference to me. We've had 3 windows, and at some point, you've got to make an issue of it if it's the owners.
Allardyce had a worse team than we have now (I'd argue much worse). While I'm not calling for a return to that style of play, it bolsters the argument that it's down to the coaching. As Sniper pointed out, we have at least mediocre players for the prem, and Bilic is putting the names on the team sheet. If they are underperforming, it's his job to sort it or yank them and reorganise. His inability to do either has affected everyone's confidence. This mess has been ongoing since pre-season (beginning with the decision to sell Tomkins) with a brief respite after binning Payet. The fitness issue is also a glaring problem. We've had no cup runs, and no other comps besides the prem. We should at least be able to match other teams in endurance rather than blowing out our arse after 60 minutes.

Lack of both fitness and motivation, tactics crap team selection predictable and poor. Bilic continually looks a beaten man which is hardly inspirational!

Coaching... Fitness... stamina... Tactics... Defensive formations ... Defending Free kicks and Corners... Midfield transition too slow... Too much back and sideways passing... Only Lanzini carrying the ball forward... Not enough crossing when Carroll in the middle... Why Carroll not in the middle enough...? Plus a lot more...WINNING ATTITUDE IS MISSING...

The cause is built in history, it's the west ham way, how do we change it? I suppose the man city way, loads of money.

Has anyone else even considered that as much as the new stadium can be a factor this season, the last season at the Boleyn was a factor in our relative success last season?

Bloody hope it's stopped! That's ridiculous. How are you supposed to concentrate fully on training and preparation with kids, woman and animals roaming about the place?

Re: What is the cause of our on field problems? Players or coaching?

The players we had last season were mostly good last season.
The players we bought this season were good players before they started training and playing with us.
My suspicion is that it's a combination of lack of training intensity and a collapse in confidence. I suspect that Bilic has a tendency to panic and become morose as soon as things go against him, and that effects the players' confidence.
